DJDFW Shelby Hoyl (DFW – duh!)

Shelby Hoyl started in the DFW area at sixteen djing small local parties, house parties and pool parties. He threw an event a local basketball arena and played mobile commercial gigs for various locations and started doing weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other events. In 2008 he played E-Fest.

He still plays weddings and private events and mobile gigs and works as an entertainment technician at Six Flags Over Texas. Shelby played at such events as Wowie Zowie I & II, Spinnin’ Like a Hurricane, Five Intimate Evenings of Electronica, Beat Fighters, Invasion of the Kandi Kids II, Vinyl Fantasy I, Beat Fighters, Awake, Groove, Dusk ’till Dawn, Plurific Mystery Machine, Who’s Eating Who, Rebirth, Age of Aquarius, Alice in Kandiland 3, the Texas Fall Music Festival, the Rock & Rave series, various events at the Lizard Lounge and others. He is scheduled for the Texas Freedom Festival (three hundred DJs) in Austin this July 4th weekend.

Shelby is the house resident DJ at Six Flags Over Texas (2009 to present) and had residencies at PH Afterhours and Mountasia, and has had residencies at the Sterling Hotel, Onyx, the Japanese Grill (where he can still be seen from time to time), Lola’s Saloon, Makuti Deck (Upper Deck) and has played the Whisky Bar, M-Street, The Cavern, The Hotel Capri, Froggys, The Lizard Lounge, Pussycat Lounge, The Vault, The Lonestar Country Club, Mick’s Bar, Zephyrs, Absinthe Lounge, Club Karma in Austin and has played private events in such places as Zilcher Park in Austin, the Old Red Courthouse in Dallas and the Starlight Ballroom in Dallas. He can also be found from time to time at K.I.S.S. parties in Trinity Park in Fort Worth. He prefers Electro House but also goes to the dubstep.

For private gigs he plays whatever the promoter wants. For private events Shelby plays electro and current club music but also plays country music dances to top 40 / hip hop / rap or classic rock and pop music as well as timeless music from the American Songbook and Italian crooners if that is what the people want. Your perfect enjoyment is Shelby’s mission! Shelby also promotes and produces musical events and throws or co-promotes several large events each year through War On Boredom. He has large and extensive professional public address equipment and lighting. Shelby is associated with War On Boredom, Friends With Headphones, and is a frequent independent contributor to Section 8 and other events.

Spencer Hoyl started working as a light monkey for his brother at various events and playing music from the age of fourteen. He played various times at Six Flags in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and played regular Fridays at Mountasia in 2010. He regularly plays at the Japanese Grill on Tuesday nights in North Richland Hills.
Spencer preferrs Electro House but also moves to popular dance music if the event calls for it.

It all started back in 1998, Tre’s mom’s boyfriend at the time had a room mate who was a DJ and Tre got his first glimps at the decks.
In 2001 he decided that he wanted to become a DJ, but he had no idea how to do it until 2004 when he started to produce breakcore with a friend and learned the basics of the Fruity Loops software, then on his own he started to produce Hands up.
He had listened to hardcore but mainly just the stuff on the Happy2bHardcore albums.
In late 2005 he taught himself the basics of actually DJing and dropped producing all together.
He started doing small house parties in 2007, then in 2009 he actually went out to spinning at events. Around that time he decided to start producing Hardcore rather than just playing it,
and he has just been learning more and more since.

Taking what you thought you knew about laptop performers and throwing it out the window. Having been a user of Traktor since the first version, he has refined his skills with the software to a level hardly matched. He uses a variety of controllers and custom programming to get just the right feel out of the system, twisting the music in just the right way to make you MOVE! Moonstruck Red definitely dances to the beat of a different drum, but what else would you expect from Texas’ Premier UK/Happy Hardcore personality in both djing, mcing, and promoting. Standing as Independent as the Lone Star itself, for almost five years this Dallas native has been a key member for the growth of Texas Hardcore and the most influential. Along with his countless mixed demos passed out each year, his hard to forget catch phrases (including “What the %$@* is a Moonstruck Red” or “Spank my behind!”) the interaction Red has with his supporters has won him much respect amongst the hearts of the youth. Away from spinning, Red has been a local underground hit with a certain scit involving himself with two aliens begging him to spank their behinds. His positive and nerdy message he displays on the mic and through the music is what makes him shine the most and has won him much acclaim over the past year.

In early 2008, Moonstruck joined Sex Army and along with co founders, PLUR KiD, Boy Scout, and DJ OMG, started hosting Hardcore events in a small venue in Azle, Texas known as Oddballs. Shortly after, along with Spunky da Bunny and DJ Blade, he joined forces with Purple Monkey which would host a series of huge UK Hardcore events at Afterlife including,”Candy Mountain” and “Flux Capacitor.” By late 2009, Sex Army changed its name to Section 8 and began hosting events at The Texas Scaregrounds in Kennedale. It was there that on May 28th, 2010, he married his long time girlfriend, Amelia Schroeder, at a free rave properly named, “Happily Hardcore Ever After.” Headliners of past events include: Wolfgang Gartner, Brisk, S3rl, Jen Mas, Delta 9 , DJ Impact, Stormtrooper, Jimni Cricket, Milo, Ian K, James Rize, Crackerjack, DJ Saiyan, Cotts, and Ravine.

Away from DJing and Promoting, Moonstruck has been involved in assisting with many different organizations around the State. In the summer of 2009, Purple Monkey hosted “The Hypersound Stage” at the 1st Annual “Future Fest,” bringing in many national and international names. In late 2010, he began helping LA based “Hard Dance Nation” whenever and wherever they needed him. And in early 2011, he joined Houston based, Undercore, in hopes to expand the Hardcore style.

After a solid four and a half years of promoting, DJing, and endless Lone Star road trips, Moonstruck has been focusing a good majority of his time on a side project “Da Short Bus Ninjas” involving himself and his close friend DJ Midget. Receiving his first pair of turntables at the age of 16 in February of ’07, he knew this was his calling. He started out playing Electro at house parties here and there. After making the switch to Hard-Dance/Hard-Trance, he got booked at his first event, OMGWTF, at Club Afterlife of Dallas, thanks to help of SpunkyDaBunny and Moonstruck Red. After learning the key elements of DJ-ing, Midget made the switch to the banging sounds of Hardstyle. Midget was rocking Club Afterlife of Dallas and Section 8 events every weekend. It didn’t stop there for Midget, he wanted something a leedle beeet harder and faster. (to match his “mad skillz” [LOL]) Midget soon discovered that UK Hardcore is where it’s at. After playing a mad set at Kandi Fest in 2010, DJ Moonstruck Red took him under his wings. His words after KandiFest were “DJ Midget was killing it on the decks. Making the move to UK Hardcore, I think, is the best move he’s made and Im not saying that just cause I’m Hardcore promoter, but cause I know he gots what it takes to go all the way with it. We just may have the American DJ S3rl in Texas and not even know it yet.” Those words inspired Midget to take UK Hardcore to the next level in Dallas. With that being said they formed together the incredible tag-team group known as Da Short Bus Ninjaz. After the Ninjaz got their first gig, on the main stage of Spring Love ’10, Midget knew this genre would take him all the way. HTID!

D.A.T. Has been spinning for quite some time. Learning at the age of 10 from bestfriend’s older brother in Germany. Originally taught on vinyl, throughout the years has become one of the electrifying DJ’s in Dallas/Fort Worth, Tx. At the age of 18, Maurice aka D.A.T. has proven that his skill of music and mixing is on another level by winning the International DJ Mixing Contest in London. Which proves that his skills are not just of mixing, but also turntablism. Putting him up there with Mix Master Mike and other turntablist DJ’s and producers.

Also in the studio producing songs and remixes that are being played all over the world. Being signed with House Records out of London in 2000, D.A.T. has continued to support and do what he loves to do. Mixing for the massive. Along side with good friend DJ Kidd Love, these 2 (Digital Connections) have been mixing and producing tracks together for 12 years and counting. Playing at all the hot clubs all around the world.

D.A.T. Just recently got off the Summer Solice Tour which covered all of the west coast and mountain states of the US, including Hawaii. Playing with big names such as: DJ Dan, Frankie Bones, DJ Onions, Dereck Cater, and many more. Also in the past, D.A.T. Has openned up for such names as: Deadmau5, Pendulum, Dieselboy, Hybrid, AK1200, BT, Plump DJ’s and many more. At the end of the 2011 year, starting in November, D.A.T. will go back on tour with Renegade Hardware. And will be covering such places as: Hong Kong, Fiji Islands, China, Russia, South Africa, Egypt and basically all of Europe.

Also showing how much he loves his hobby and dream, D.A.T. has helped or taught several young inspiring people how to mix and start their career in the DJ field. Such DJ’s as: DJ Koi, DJ Pure, DJ Midget, DJ Beatrixx, DJ Samurai Kidd, DJ Spade and many more.
